Smart Capital means money and involvement.
Many investments stop at the balance sheet. For me the work starts after that. I have seen too many family businesses in the fifth generation say we have done it this way for a hundred years, why should we change, and then the market changes it for them. Kodak did not die in 2012 when it filed for bankruptcy. Kodak died when someone put the future in a drawer. That is why I bring capital and get involved where I can add operating value: sales, operations, digital, internationalisation.
The thesis in one sentence
Strong mid-market companies become more valuable when capital and operating leadership sit at the same table. That is Strachwitz Ventures. Not because it sounds elegant, but because the German market and industrial reality do not reward spectators.
How I sit in the business
I do not take a vanity title for the business card. We define what I own and what management owns. Typically I focus on commercial topics, processes and digital levers. Day-to-day leadership stays with management unless we agree otherwise.
Time in the business: usually two to four days a month, fixed in the calendar. More in the first 100 days, by agreement.
Form of involvement: advisory board, operating role, or both, depending on the situation.
If after the investment the daily reality is identical and you only gained a new name on the cap table, I did not do my job.
Where I work
- Revenue and customers: sales structure, key accounts, pricing, international growth, and the hard truth that markets are not copied with a home-market framework.
- Margin and cost: processes, purchasing, capacity use, priorities people actually keep.
- Digital: systems that reduce friction in daily work, not presentations that look good and change nothing.
- Organisation: roles, reporting, decisions without theatre, and constant improvement instead of one heroic story.
No buzzword roadmap. Actions with owners and dates. If someone does not understand, I did not explain it well enough. That rule applies to me as much as to any team I work with.
Decisions and information
Before investing we agree information rights, reserved matters and reporting. Short and written. No surprises, and no hoping that things clarify themselves. Hoping is not a strategy.
Exit
I invest to build value. An exit follows a shared logic: timeline, milestones, possible successors or buyers. Details belong in the agreement, not on the website.
Ventures is not consulting
Interim mandates and AI projects sit with Strachwitz Consulting. Strachwitz Ventures is investment and operating partnership. The two stay separate because clients and partners deserve to know which door they just walked through.
